    What is Avocado and Milk?

Avocado and Milk is a popular Filipino dessert, especially among kids. It is made with fresh avocado flesh, evaporated milk, and chunks of ice. The simplicity of this snack or dessert is a refreshing treat on a hot summer day in the Philippines.

The love for avocado doesn't stop at the classic dessert. Avocado sorbetes, the country's lighter version of traditional ice cream and the rich avocado shake are all-time favorites. These treats highlight how Filipinos creatively use avocados in many delicious ways.

    Notes and substitutions

    • Avocado: Use ripe avocado, preferably Hass avocado, for a creamy texture and rich flavor. You can also try using other fruits like bananas or mangoes for a different twist.
    • Evaporated Milk: You can use different types of milk based on your preference or dietary needs, like fresh milk, coconut milk, or plant-based milk.
    • Condensed Milk: It provides a thick and sweet consistency. You can also use another sweetener like honey, maple syrup, or sugar.

    How to make this recipe

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make the dessert ahead of time?

I do not recommend making it ahead of time because the avocado oxidizes and the ice melts. However, this dessert can be quickly assembled in less than 5 minutes before serving.

Can I use frozen avocado instead of fresh?

Yes, just remember to thaw the frozen avocado before using it in the recipe. While the texture and flavor may not be as ideal as fresh avocado, it will still be a suitable option for this dessert.
