A kamayan feast or otherwise known as the “boodle fight” is a traditional Filipino-style feast in a communal setting. A colorful arrangement of food is served on banana leaves. Friends, or even strangers, gather around the table and share a meal without the use of plates or utensils. Kamayan is a Tagalog word which translates to “eating with hands”. There is no fixed menu on what you can serve or how much the participants can eat. Even those who are not comfortable eating with bare hands are gladly accommodated. In my opinion, the most special thing about a kamayan feast is the experience where a sense of community is fostered — sharing a meal and engaging with one another.
